Landscape and Fine Art Photography

This site is dedicated to the images of landscape and fine art photographer Jim Cole. Jim is known for his landscape images of the western and southwestern United States. In the last few years he has made the transition from working exclusively in color to mostly black and white and from shooting nature and landscape to other subjects of the camera. He still makes the occasional landscape photograph when location and light make their magic. Since 2005, all of Jim's images have been made with large format film cameras.

Each landscape or nature image captures a unique moment in time, never to be repeated in exactly the same way. While most of my outdoor photographs are the result of a pre-visualized idea mixed with extreme amounts of patience, others are nothing more than gratuitous luck. In all cases capturing that decisive moment involved an understanding of the technical aspects of photography, an awareness of my surroundings, knowledge of my subject and of course, being in the right place at the right time. I hope you enjoy a look at our world as I have captured it on film.
